Early Childhood Caries (ECC)

Early Childhood Caries (ECC)

Early childhood caries (several decayed baby teeth) can be a debilitating, painful and unattractive. The causes of this can vary. Babies that are snack fed often throughout the day and night with either the breast or bottle have a high risk of developing decay. Babies, toddlers and young children that have a diet high in sugar, snack frequently, and or have juices and flavored milk often either in bottles of cups. Depending on the child’s age and temperament, treating this type of decay can be quite challenging and if it cannot be treated in the surgery sometimes a referral to our local Paediatric specialist is the kindest way to get a long lasting result. If it is caught early there are many ways to manage the treatment here at Tweed District Dental. So if you think this may be happening to your child they should be evaluated by one of our practioners, who will offer, support, dietary guidance and treatment to suit every child.
