Mouthguards

59 Protection.png

Mouthguards help to reduce sports injuries to the face and jaw, if not avoid them altogether. They are, by far, the best way to safeguard your smile throughout the sports season.

At Tweed District Dental, we have turned the making and fitting of mouthguards into an art form. Not only have we made it easy for you, but we have also made it extremely affordable.

There are several types of mouthguards on the market, but not all are equal. ‘Boil-and-bite’ mouthguards are the ones you buy over the counter. They can be self-fitted by softening them in hot water and biting down on them to form an impression. Although cheaper, boil-and-bite mouthguards tend to be less comfortable to wear and not as effective in preventing injuries.

A far better option is to have your mouthguard custom-made and fitted by a dental professional. Custom-made mouthguards:

  • offer greater protection than cheaper ill-fitting styles

  •  allow you to breathe, speak and drink with ease

  • can be personalised in your favourite team colours

A quality, custom made and fitted mouthguard could set you back by as much as $160–200 (4mm thickness). But, at Tweed District Dental, we like to support our local sporting heroes. That’s why we offer custom made mouthguards for the price of your health fund rebate, only, leaving you with no out-of-pocket expenses. If you don’t belong to a private health fund, we charge as little as $85 for our kid’s mouthguards. It’s our way of giving back to the community.

If you play sports, don’t risk a severe face injury by not using a mouthguard. And, if you would like us to make you one, just call (07) 5513 0900 or email us.
